Montpelier Motor Speedway

Location - The track is located to the North East of Indianapolis. It's
a genuine one hour 35 minute drive and it's a drive which feels like it
takes every minute of that. Take I-69 from Indy and exit when you get to the
Marion off-ramp. The track is a substantial distance from the inter-state so
don't get too excited until you reach downtown Montpellier.
Parking - When you enter the facility you will wonder where the track
is such is the size of the carpark. Seating is easily the limiting factor
at this track and parking will be the least of your worries.
Premiere Meeting - USAC Sprintcars and USAC Midgets look to be the
highlight on what is a very busy schedule where racing occurs week in week
Also worth attending - The rest of the schedule is pretty much just
variations of the standard weekly show. Perhaps the fireworks night might
be worth a look but my personal preference is the $1 hot dog night.
Best spot to sit - Seating is a real issue at this place. Stands are
down the front straight and are very small when compared with most speedway
tracks. Furthermore the track sits well below the height of the front straight
wall. Viewing from the lower stands is highly compromised as you can't see
all of the car passing in front of you. Try and get a top row seat about
halfway down the front straight. It's your best chance of viewing all the action.
Classes run - Midgets, Non-wing Sprintcars, US Modifieds, Super Streets,
Thundercars, FWD Compacts, Mod Lites
Uniqueness - The track has a real bowl like look to it. Somewhat unusually
the straights are banked as well as the turns. The banking in the turns really
kicks up towards the top. When Percy visisted track conditions were less than
ideal. The track had to be graded halfway through the night such was the lack
of moisture. It did appear the place had real potential.
